television presents real life
I can live without television but not without a computer with a fast internet connection. However, there are times when you have to take a break with the internet and take time to watch TV. Including the commercials.
Anyway, a very lovely and intelligent professor of mine in one of my economics subjects told us that we should watch TV and we should be attentive to the commercials as they depicts the culture of the people in the country–in my case, the culture of the Filipino people. And it’s true.
Commercials of Jollibee, McDonalds, and etc. depicts the culture and society of the Filipino people. Some of them showing that we have very strong family ties, that we are hospitable, that we love food.. and etc… and if there are bad themed commercials like those who present their products using girls in bikinis present a bad impression.
Media is a powerful force. Something that can’t be stopped but just because it can’t be stopped doesn’t mean that we can’t do something about it.
We should be aware of all this violence in media today. Violence, pornography and such things. I just want to clear this, I’m not anti-media or anything like that but there are kids watching TVs. Most of the time, without parental supervision. So, i think, we should all be aware and well… take precautionary measures about these things. Especially if there are little kids at home. =)
PS. I wrote this blog entry for my cousin, Raen, who is just around 5 or 6 years old and watches TV all the time. Some live bad impressions on her and some made good impressions and that’s good but i worry that there are more bad impressions.
anyway.. guidance parents! guidance!
